[00:06.87]M: Stress is generally driven by the feeling of being out of control of a situation
[00:12.78]and the feeling of a situation controlling you.
[00:16.66]Trading in financial markets combines both.
[00:19.24]W: How do you relax in the evening?
[00:22.56]M:I very rarely do anything work-related,
[00:25.21]so it's easy to escape the markets.
[00:27.45]I generally go to the gym or go for a run,
[00:31.67]especially if I had a bad day.
[00:34.62]I always cook a meal rather than have a take-away.
[00:37.80]To do something my brain will regard as creative.
[00:40.93]W: Do you think what you do to relax is an effective way to beat stress?
[00:46.97]M: I don't think there is a specific rule about how to beat stress.
[00:51.90]I generally find out what I do is effective for me.
[00:56.35]W: Would you consider changing your job because of the high stress factor?
[01:00.66]M: I have considered leaving my job due to stress-related factors.
[01:05.01]However, I do think that an element of stress is a good thing,
[01:10.40]and if used the right way, it can actually be a positive thing.
[01:14.32]W: What do you enjoy about the stressful aspects of your job?
[01:18.68]M: Having said all that, I do actually enjoy an element of uncertainty.
[01:23.68]I enjoy a mental challenge.
[01:26.00]Trading generates a wide range of emotions second by second.
[01:30.72]How you deal with and manage those emotions dictates short,
[01:35.22]medium and long-term trading performance and success.
