n 2004, NASA launched the Spirit Rover to Mars in what was supposed to be a short 3 month mission. NASA finally lost contact with Spirit in 2011. Spirit lasted for an incredible 6 years, 20 times longer than originally designed, managing to survive two catastrophic dust storms. Perhaps, like us, Spirit understood the severity and importance of its mission.
